What is a DUNS Number?
A DUNS (Data Universal Numbering System) number is a unique nine-digit identifier assigned to businesses and organizations by Dun & Bradstreet (D&B). Apple requires a DUNS number to verify your organization's identity and legal status before you can enroll in the Apple Developer Program as a company or organization.
Why Do You Need a DUNS Number?
Apple requires a DUNS number for the following reasons:
Verification: To confirm your organization's legal entity status and ensure it is a legitimate business.
Identification: To distinguish your organization from others with similar names.
Agreement: To establish that you have the legal authority to bind your organization to Apple's legal agreements.
Steps to Obtain a DUNS Number
Check for Existing DUNS Number:
D&B may have already assigned your organization a free DUNS number.
Visit the Apple Developer Program support page for DUNS numbers and follow the instructions to look up your organization. https://developer.apple.com/support/D-U-N-S/
You will need to provide your legal entity name, headquarters address, mailing address, and work contact information.
Request a New DUNS Number:
If your organization doesn't have a DUNS number, you can request one for free from D&B through the Apple Developer Program support page.
Fill out the required information, which includes the details mentioned above.
Allow up to 5 business days to receive your DUNS number from D&B.
Wait for Confirmation Mail:
After the application phase is over, you will receive an email called "D-U-N-S Number Request/Update Confirmation" informing you of the submission of the application. Please wait for the verification by phone. A registration complete notification will be sent to your email after completing the verification.
